Killarney Golf and Fishing Club

The nearest golf club to the hotel, Killarney Golf & Fishing Club is home to two 18-hole Championship courses, Killeen and Mahony’s Point, along with a 9-hole course, Lackabane. Together the three courses have had the privilege of hosting many high-profile events including the Irish Open (1991, 1992, 2010 & 2011), the European Amateur Team Championship, the Curtis Cup, the Ladies Open Championship and many more great events.

Killarney Golf & Fishing Club is one of Ireland’s most prestigious and historic golf clubs. Located in Killarney National Park, surrounded by the lakes of Lough Leane and a Six-Time Host Venue to the Irish Open.

Mahony’s Point

Mahony’s Point is the shortest of the three courses at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club and has spectacular views of Killarney’s famous lakes and Ireland’s highest mountain range the McGillicuddy Reeks. The final three holes are truly spectacular with the 18th described as one of the most memorable holes in Golf. Mahony’s Point is considered to be the most scenic and friendly of the three Killarney courses, it presents an enjoyable challenge to golfers of all standards, the combination of undulating greens, well positioned bunkers and water hazards ensure that there is enough danger to spoil a good round.

Killeen

Killeen is the flagship course at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club. Killarney’s famed scenery provides an imposing backdrop to this Championship course. Re-opened in June 2006 the course is slightly longer with faster greens that have been brought closer to the water hazards around the course. It will challenge long hitters and accuracy is vital, as there is water on virtually every hole. This course hosted the Irish Open in 1991, 1992, 2010 and 2011, while in 1996 it hosted the Curtis Cup. The challenging golf is matched by the spectacular views with the 10th being a firm favourite where you are playing virtually onto the lake.

Lackabane

Lackabane is the newest of the three courses at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club. This parkland course opened officially for play in 2000. Lakes and streams are a feature throughout the course, adding beauty and danger in equal measure. Here the long game is tested to the full. This course is suited to mid to low handicap golfers and is an excellent test of the long game.

Beaufort Golf Club

This course presents magnificent views of the world famous MacGillycuddy Reeks from all points. The natural drainage of the site and the exceptionally mild climate of south west Ireland guarantees enjoyable golf throughout the year.

The Ross Golf Club

Ross Golf Club is a nine-hole 3300 yard course including water and woodland features, and great lush greens. The clubhouse has uninterrupted 180 degree mountain, woodland lake and castle panorama, one of the great vistas of Irish Golf.

Ballybunion Golf Club – Cashen

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and first opened in 1982, the Cashen Course is Ballybunion’s magnificent new course, located among amazingly high sand dunes at the mouth of the river Cashen. The course flows with the land and uses the natural contours to full potential.

Old Course

Located on the Shannon Estuary, Ballybunion is a true seaside links course, virtually treeless with sharp contours throughout. This course has been consistently ranked among the top courses in the world. Yet the course is eminently fair. It will test your patience and it does not favour one particular style of play over another, but one that simply rewards good play and good shots.

Ring of Kerry Golf and Country Club

Overlooking Kenmare Bay and the Kerry mountains this course has a challenging layout with dramatic elevation changes. Plenty of very interesting holes and views make it one of Ireland’s most scenic courses. Strictly speaking it is a parkland course but it has a definite links feel, given its proximity to the bay and its sand based fairways and greens.

Dooks Golf Club

Dooks Golf Club was founded in 1889 and is one of the five oldest links courses in Ireland. The charm, atmosphere and superb seaside setting make Dooks a once in a lifetime experience. The course is nearly 6,600 yards from the back tees, but don’t be over ambitious, the course from the white tees, which even though short by modern standards will test every club in the bag and that’s on a calm day.

Tralee Golf Club

Representing the first European design of Arnold Palmer, Tralee Golf Club is one of the most beautiful courses you will ever encounter. Having completed his masterpiece Palmer commented “I have never come across a piece so ideally suited for the building of a golf course. I am happy that we have one of the world’s greatest links here.”

Waterville Links
