Sustainability at The Brehon
IT IS NOT ENOUGH FOR A HOTEL TO BE LOCATED IN ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES ON EARTH, IT MUST BE WORTHY OF ITS SURROUNDINGS.
The Brehon Hotel and Anú Spa are enrolled in the Failte Ireland Climate Action Programme. We are working with the Sustainable Tourism Network, who provide sustainability programmes, training and consulting which will guide us in developing a comprehensive sustainability policy.
While we are only at the beginning of our journey with the Sustainable Tourism Network, we have been proactively making changes in recent years to adopt more sustainable practices and integrate greener energy solutions into our operations.
- The hotel has a designated a Green Team that monitors our progress and focuses on developing our policies
- We audit our waste, energy, and water monthly to identify areas that can be improved
- We consider our environmental impact and look for the best options when considering products and suppliers, this initiative focuses on using local suppliers to reduce carbon emissions generated by transportation
- The Brehon Hotel is a signed partner in Killarney town’s 2GoCup scheme
- We are a signed-up member along with 21 other Killarney hotels that have created a pact to strive to reduce negative impacts on our environment
- This year, we transitioned from gas boilers to electricity powered ‘air-to-water’ heat pumps for heating water throughout the hotel.
- We have installed Aqua Libra water dispensers which provide filtered, great-tasting water, using refillable Aqua Libra glass bottles which reduces the need for any single use bottles.
